Sterling, VA- Karen Kaye Jones-McDonald died at her home on January 4, 2015 in Sterling, Virginia. She was 54. Ms. Jones-McDonald was born on January 27, 1960. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1978 and Bridgewater College. She married David McDonald, Sr. in 1984. She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil E. Jones and Pearl Chapman-Jones, of Abingdon, VA; and her sister, Marsha Jones of Wytheville, VA. She is survived by her two beloved sons, David C. McDonald II and Sgt. Alexander W. McDonald of the US Army. Ms. Jones-McDonald was a musician, playing in band in high school and college; she was also an athlete, playing varsity volleyball in both high school and college. Karen went on to play volleyball in leagues as well as being a referee. Ms. Jones-McDonald worked in the defense industry; she was employed for nearly thirty years with what is now a division of Lockheed Martin, in Northern Virginia. The funeral service for Karen Jones-McDonald will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Ms. Jones-McDonald will then be buried alongside her parents and sister at Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon.
