Katherine Frances Baker

December 20, 1914 — May 12, 2017

Katherine Frances “Auntie” Baker, age 102, passed away on Friday May 12, 2017 at her home. She was a native of Washington County, VA and was a long standing member of the Charles Wesley United Methodist Church. Extravagant kindness was the trait that best described her. Her glow and kind giving heart drew people to her. Friends and family flocked to her house for her delightful cooking especially her spoon bread, homemade rolls, and mint tea. Aside from cooking and entertaining friends and family she enjoyed spending time in her garden expressing her love for all to admire. Katherine always made sure everyone felt loved and never forgotten by spending greeting cards for birthdays and special occasions. She truly was the glue that held the family together.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Alease Colton Baker; brothers Lloyd, Jr., Wesley and David Lewis Baker; sisters Violet Williams and Gary Marie Mitchell. She is survived by her son Bouyer Baker; nieces Katherine Maurice Duff, Linda Tomlinson and Dawn Baker; nephew Robert Mitchell, Jr.; great nieces Nekeisha McCracken, Amber Callahan, Monique Tomlinson, Arielle Hawkins, and Tracy Carter; great nephews Byron Dicks, Marcellus Tomlinson, Robert Worley, Arielle Hawkins, Ryan Mitchell, Russell Carter and Frankie Carter; and a host of cousins; special cousin and lifetime friend Harriet Debose and Lemuel Wheeler.

A funeral service for Katherine Frances Baker will be held at noon on Monday May 15, 2017 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Willie Austin and Rev. Robert Kariuki officiating. Interment will follow in the High Point Cemetery where Marcellus Tomlinson, George Pope, Ricky Anderson, James Anderson, Robert Mitchell, Jr., and Russell Carter will serve as casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be Richard Hagley, Lemuel Wheeler, Lewis Gillenwater, Johnny Sheffey, Frank Foster, Douglas Faw, and Robert Lowe. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – noon at the funeral home prior to the service.
