Kenneth Eugene Olinger, age 70, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born April 17, 1947, to the late Paul Ernest Olinger and Gussie Ruth Doane Olinger in Saltville, Va. Kenneth was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served as a Staff Sergeant in Vietnam. He retired after 30 years as a service technician from Ball Corporation, formerly Reynolds Metals, in Bristol, Va.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was also preceded in death by his brother, Ernie Olinger.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lynn Hogston Olinger; two sons, Shannon Olinger and wife, Becky, of Bristol, Tenn. and Terry Olinger of Abingdon, Va.; two daughters, Lesley James Lint and husband, Greg, of Abingdon, Va. and Laura Bryant and Chad Roberts of Florida; special daughter, and Janet Pippin and husband, Gary, of Meadowview, Va.; brother, Nookie Olinger and wife, Karen, of Chilhowie, Va.; one niece, Kim Stevens; three nephews, Shane, Bryan, and Scott Olinger; three grandchildren, Olivia Clementine Gaal, Geneva Katherine “Ginny” Bryant, and Jonathan Regan Bryant; two special grandchildren, Brigette Pippin Trogden and Bradley Pippin; and special great grandchildren, Riley Trogdon and Mattie Lou Trogdon.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Hwy., Abingdon, Va. 24210, where guests will be invited to share family friendly memories. Military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Air Force. Casual attire is requested.
