Kenneth Paul Rotenberry, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home on May 2, 2024 with his loving wife and daughter beside him. Ken was born on January 20, 1944 in West Virginia.
Ken moved to Virginia when he was 17 and began his lifelong career with the Kroger Company. This brilliant man worked his way up from bag boy to head meat cutter and finally retired after 42 years as a Kroger manager. We know that many, many co workers and customers will miss his warm nature and smiling face. He was a Kroger man through and through.
Aside from his career, Ken loved being outdoors keeping his yard beautiful, green, and devoid of any weeds- many would comment that his lawn looked like the fairways and greens of a golf course. He would ride his John Deere tractor usually twice a week to keep everything looking beautiful. One of his favorite hobbies was playing golf. He spent time having fun on the course and always wanted to help his wife, daughter, and granddaughter improve their game with the upmost patience and guidance. Those are memories that we will all hold dear in our hearts.
Ken loved his family. He was always there, always smiling, and always willing to help or support whatever was needed. Most of the time, he knew what you needed before ever being asked. He was compassionate and kind and took pride in helping others. His wife and daughter would like to express a heartfelt thank you to his lovely sister-in-law, Sandy Burke (Bruce) and his beautiful neighbors who were always willing to drop everything, day or night, to offer support and love when he needed them. He and Jane were blessed to have such caring and special people in their lives. He will be missed by family, friends, and anyone that had the pleasure of meeting him.
In addition to his loving parents, Paul and Elsie Rotenberry of Bluefield, WV, Ken was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Doris Roark who thought he hung the moon.
Ken’s memory will forever be cherished by his surviving family and friends, including his beautiful wife Jane Rotenberry, his daughter Robin Boroughs (Monty Boroughs), his grandson Jordan Carter (Elizabeth Morelock) his granddaughter Lauren Fleenor (Colton Fleenor), three wonderful step grandchildren Ethan Boroughs, Kelsie Boroughs, Madisyn Boroughs, five great grandchildren Elliana, William, Michael, Amelia, and Ammersyn, his brother Jerry Rotenberry, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Ken’s love for his family extended beyond measure, and we take comfort in knowing we will be able to see him again one beautiful day.
To honor Ken’s life, a graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Serenity Gardens Mausoleum in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia with William Denton officiating. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the caring and loving life he lived and strive to carry forth the kind of values and compassion that he exemplified. A beautiful soul - husband, dad, Poppy, brother, and friend, may you rest in peace and know that you will always be held close in our hearts until we meet again.
