Kimberly Beth Bailey Fern

Abingdon, VA – Kimberly Beth Bailey Fern, age 54, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born March 30, 1961, the second child of the late Charles Lane Bailey, Sr. and Betty Jean “Betsy” Walker Bailey. Kim was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church and was serving as the Senior Intellectual Disability Support Coordinator for Highlands Community Services at the time of her passing. She had been with the company for 24 years. Kim married her high school sweetheart, James H. “Jim” Fern, on May 26, 1984, and together they have enjoyed 31 years of marriage and their two precious daughters, Whitney Lane Fern of Los Angeles, CA and Bailey Elizabeth Fern of Abingdon. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Lane “Chad” Bailey, Jr. of Abingdon. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark B. McFadden officiating. A committal service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 3rd in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum of Knollkreg Memorial Park where Bo Boyd, Sr., Bo Boyd, Jr., Bob Fern, John Fern, Rick Hagy, and Matt Smith will serve as pallbearers. The men of Shady Grove United Methodist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Forrest Swan of Clinch Valley Medical Center.
