Lacie Ann Lester Hart, age 90, formerly of Abingdon, Va., passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2020, at Christian Care Center of Bristol, Tenn. She was born in Chilhowie, Va. on March 16, 1930, and grew up in Glade Spring, Va. She graduated from Glade Spring High School in 1947 where she was a cheerleader and played basketball. She graduated in 1951 from Emory & Henry College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In 1949 at Emory & Henry College she became a member of the Alpha Beta Chi Sorority.
Lacie retired in 1990 from the Washington County, Va. school system where she was a public school teacher with 31 years of service. She taught at Wallace High School, Bristol, Va., Hamilton High School in Mendota, Va., and High Point Elementary School, Bristol, Va. At Hamilton High School she was the Girls Basketball Coach.
Lacie was instrumental in the founding of High Point Elementary School in Bristol, Va. and was one of the original teachers. She was an avid shopper, loved to read, enjoyed family history, and spending time with her family. While living in Scenic Park in Bristol, Va. her family were members of Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church and later became a member of Fellowship Chapel in Bristol, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Mathis Lester and Lucy Mink Lester; her husband of 58 years, E. Ray Hart, whom she married on June 23, 1951; and daughter, Betty Ann Hart Bays.
She is survived by her son, Alan Ray Hart and wife, Cathy Meade Hart, of Bristol, Tenn.; four grandchildren: Michael Alan Hart; Angela Hart Livingston and husband, Jonathan; James Bradley Bays; and Laura Bays Thelen and husband, Michael; five great grandchildren, Evey Lynn Hart, Lauren Renee Livingston, Grady Ryan Livingston, Leah Abigail Thelen, and Molly Ann Thelen; former son-in-law, Larry Bays; and several nieces and nephews. She was known to her grandchildren as “Nanny.”
A private funeral ceremony will be livestreamed on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. from the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. Steve Peek officiating. The livestreamed service may be viewed by visiting
