Larry G. "Jake" Mullins, age 64, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013 after a short illness.
He was born to Laura Blankenship Mullins and the late Frank Mullins on April 9, 1949. Larry graduated from Grundy High School in 1967 and shortly after married the love of his life, Judy Street Mullins of Garden Creek, VA.
Larry was a Senior Vice President and the Clinch Mountain Regional Manager for New Peoples Bank. He had over 40 years of experience in the banking industry where he was passionate about making a difference in the lives of his customers and employees.
Larry was also current president of the Washington County Shrine Club and was an active member of the Kazim Shrine Temple and the Sandy Valley and Shelby Masonic Lodges. He currently served as a deacon at Green Spring Presbyterian Church and was involved with Boy Scouts of America and Abingdon Faith in Action. Larry mostly loved to spend time with his grandchildren, golfing, hunting and working in his yard with his wife.
Larry is survived by his wife Judy; two sons and their wives, Dr. Sean and Dianna Mullins of Bristol, TN and Dr. Todd and Courtney Mullins of Swanton, MD; his mother, Laura of Grundy; his sister, Sandy Mullins Stiltner of Grundy; two brothers, Bill Mullins of Kill Devil Hills, NC and Frank "J.J." Mullins of Bristol, TN; six grandchildren that he loved dearly, Carter, Bailey, J.T., Jordyn, Jake and Reagan; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Green Spring Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jon Martin officiating. Masonic Rites will be provided by the Kazim Shrine Temple and the Sandy Valley and Shelby Masonic Lodges. Visitation with the family will be held 4-7 p.m. Wednesday just prior to the service at the church. It was Mr. Mullins' wish to be cremated after the service.
Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Phillips, Donnie Phillips, Gary Rose, Kevin Abel, Kenny Perkins, Mike Hillman, and his colleagues at New Peoples Bank.
