Marion, Va.
Laura Ernestine (Teeny) Coe. Laura was reunited with family and friends on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. A special infant gifted to Laura (Parks) and Ernest Farris on December 24, 1929, she continued to be a blessing to all she met.
Eloping with her handsome sailor (George) on November 12, 1947, she would give birth to nine children, of which seven survive to attest to her beautiful selfless nature. Celebrating their Mom’s life are Steve (Kay), George Jr. (Hande), Tim (Frances), Kim (Delores), Mark (Missy), Jeff (Debby) and Kevin (Cindy). As the years passed Laura was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren who were recipients of her wonderful spirit and love filled home.
Laura was born in the Clinchburg, Va. parsonage and shared her childhood in the Blackwell Chapel area with brothers Bill (Ruby), Charles (Bobbie), Jim (Kay), and Ted (Toni), as well as her sisters Betty (Hansel) and Nina (John). Wonderful memories of this phase of her life as well as her co-workers and friends from 27 years of service as a Nurse’s Aide/Ward Clerk at Smyth County Community Hospital always brought a smile to her lips and sustained her throughout life. Her faith and her Savior’s promises of peace and unending love strengthened her during her final journey.
Funeral services for Laura E. Coe will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2018, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Scott Spence officiating. Visitation will be held 12-2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment with the love of her life will conclude following the service at the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Laura’s sons would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Dr. McGlothlin and Pam for their care and loving spirit, the staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital and Smyth County Community Hospital, staff and therapists of Abingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center, special friends from Amedisys Home Health Care and the caring Nurses of Ballad Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent in her memory to the Blackwell Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 8329 Blackwell Chapel Road, Meadowview, VA 24361.
