Laura Lee "Freddie" Mason

Laura Lee (Freddie) Mason, age 97, passed away on 10/05/2022 in Braselton, GA. She was born in New Orleans, LA to Charles Lee and Laura Smith Frederick, moved to Washington, D.C. where youth and teen age years were spent. She graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College and attended Emory & Henry College. She taught kindergarten at the Emory United Methodist Church for twelve years and worked with parents and volunteers of the Washington County Head Start Program for 25 years. In retirement years, Freddie authored books for children and adults. Three generations of her family enjoyed sharing Nanny's love of writing by providing art and assisting in publishing her stories. She loved to travel and spend time with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Dr. William Clifford Mason, Jr.; her grandson, Jonathan Shane Anderson; parents, Lee and Laura Frederick; parents-in-law, Clifford and Myrtle Mason; sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Milton Kimbel; brother-in-law Glenn Mason; brother-in-law, Wilmoth Mack; and foster daughter, Peggy Stiltner.

Surviving are her son, William Frederick Mason; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Lee and Kenneth Davis; daughter and son-in-law, Ann Akers and Tommy Billings; granddaughter and husband, Laura and Robert Pancake; grandson and wife, Zachary and Andrea Davis; great-grandson, Aaron Pancake; great-granddaughter, Ruthie Pancake; great-grandson, Henry Davis; sister, Joyce Mack; sister-in-law, Margaret Mason and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, foster grandchildren and foster great-grandchildren.

The family will have visitation for our Georgia friends at Memorial Park South Funeral Home in Flowery Branch, GA on Friday, 10/7/22 from 11 AM - 1 PM.  

Visitation for our Virginia friends will be at Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon, VA on Saturday 10/8/2022 from 5-7 PM.   A Service of Celebration of Life will be held in Memorial Chapel at Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA on Sunday 10/9/2022 at 3 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia for the William Clifford Mason, Jr. Family Scholarship, or to the Emory United Methodist Church in Emory, Virginia.
