Mr. Lawrence Thurman L.T. Copley, Jr., 72, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. L.T. was born in Williamson, W.Va. to the late Lawrence Thurman Copley, Sr. and late Mildred Varney Copley. L.T. moved to Virginia Beach where he met his wife Shirley. He later moved to Abingdon where he lived most of his life. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he had served faithfully as an usher for many years. L.T. had worked for a number of years in the coal mines and had worked as a car salesman in Abingdon. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Copley is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Brown Copley, one brother, Leonard Stewart and two sisters, Mabel Copley and Jean Wilson. L.T. is survived by three sons; Lawrence Copley, III of Bristol, Va., Keith Copley and wife, Anita of Abingdon, and Jonathan Copley and wife, Bonnie of Abingdon; and one daughter, Cherie Cisco and husband, Jason of Abingdon, 8 grandchildren, Zach Copley, Megan Viars and husband, Brian, Chasity Faust, Sommer Copley, Austin Copley, Ryan Copley, Wyatt Copley, and Garret Copley; and expecting twin great-granddaughters, one brother, Charles Skee Stewart and four sisters, June Ray, Sylvia Currier, Anita Emily, and Sue Ledford and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2016, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Bryan Treadway officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 prior to the service. A committal service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m. Pallbearers will be L.T.s sons, grandsons, and son-in-law.
