Leeda Darlene Atwell Buchanan, died Thursday, December 24, 2020, in Bristol, Va. Darlene was born on September 13, 1936, in Ury, W. Va. She resided in Bluefield, Va. for over 40 years and then moved to Abingdon, Va. where she has lived for the past 19 years.
Darlene worked for Flat Top Insurance Agency, Mustard Equipment, H.C. Crew Millwork, and retired from Bluefield State College in 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Wilson Atwell and Attie Ruth Cregger Atwell. She was very proud to have been a coal miner’s daughter.
Darlene is survived by her husband of 64 years, Frank Edward Buchanan; daughter, Elaine Buchanan Daniels and husband, Uley, of Abingdon, Va.; grandson, Allen Scott Daniels of Johnson City, Tenn.; granddaughter, Abigail Kathleen Daniels of Richmond, Va.; brother, Robert Clay Atwell, Sr. and wife, Ruth; nephew, Robert Atwell, Jr.; two nieces, Linda McKinley and Shannon McGuire; brother-in-law, Glenn Buchanan and wife, Joyce, as well as their children and respective families, Keith Buchanan and Barbara Buchanan.
Darlene was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, and “Neannie.”
She believed in helping others and would prefer you remember her with a charitable donation to Pleasant View United Methodist Church, 18416 Lee Hwy., Abingdon, Va. 24210, or the charity of your choice.
Her family would like to thank her caring and compassionate friends at Oakmont at Gordon Park for the support they have provided.
A private family memorial service will be held with the Rev. Barbara Farmer, Associate Pastor of Pleasant View United Methodist Church, officiating.
