Lewis Henry Walden, Sr., age 97, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at his home. He was born August 14, 1921, in St. Paul, Va. to the late Onzbie Lee Walden and Elizabeth Austin Walden. Lewis was a World War II veteran of the Army having served in the European Theater. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Lewis retired from Johnston Memorial Hospital and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Lewis was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Violet Genevieve Glass Walden; son, Lewis Henry Walden, Jr.; four brothers, Wood, Clyde, Lloyd, and William Walden; granddaughter, Shaina Berry; and son-in-law, Donald Coe.
He is survived by his daughter, Yulanda Coe of Abingdon, Va.; two brothers, Billy Walden and Howard Walden; two sisters, Francis Glass and Mary Worley; three grandchildren: Anita Yarber and husband, Les; Carol Coe; and Mark Coe; four great grandchildren, Alicia, Adrian, D.J., and Jordan; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will held at Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Floyd Nelson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Les Yarber, D.J. Huffman, Lewie Gilbert, Kendall Berry, and Dyesal Berry.
