Lewis Preston Stevens Sr.

Lewis Preston Stevens, Sr., age 82 of Abingdon, VA, died Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN.

Born October 21, 1929 in Washington County, VA, he was a son of the late J.M. and Maude Stevens. He had served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a little league baseball coach and was active with the booster club at Abingdon High School. Additionally, he was a Shriner and a member of Abingdon Masonic Lodge 48 for 50 years. He was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church. To his family he was a special caring husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lewis Preston Stevens, Jr. and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sarah "Sally" Stevens; daughter, Pamela Stevens Moser and husband, James of Abingdon; grandchildren, Shannon Hubbard and husband, Dwayne of Bristol, VA, Sarah Moser and Luke Taylor of Abingdon, Brandon Moser and Megan Smith of Tucson, AZ, Corporal Harrison "Spencer" Moser currently in Afghanistan, Lewis P. Stevens, III, Stacy Hilton and husband, Eric, "Bucky" Stevens and Andy Stevens all of Richmond, VA and Nikki Stevens of Myrtle Beach, SC; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Harry Stevens; sister, Edith Godbey; brothers-in-law, Woody Woolwine, Dave Woolwine and Sam Woolwine; and a special nephew, Gary Dutton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Abingdon Baptist Church with Dr. Steven Pollard officiating. Masonic rites to be conducted by Abingdon Masonic Lodge #48 A.F. & A.M. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon. Pallbearers will be grandsons and Lewis G. Woolwine, Jr.. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Fransen, Dr. Rodriguez, "Sal" Salyers, O.W. Lawson and special nurse, Deborah. Military honors at the cemetery will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at Abingdon Baptist Church from 12:30 until the time of the service on Tuesday.
