Lillian Virginia Young Wheeler, age 84, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Lillian was born March 29, 1928 in Abingdon to the late Robert Clifton Young and Mattie Jefferson Young. She was a loving Christian woman and always put others first. She enjoyed photography, writing, reading and attending church. Lillian and her late husband, Melvin Augustus Wheeler, worked very hard to provide for their daughter, Marva. They were very proud of Marva and her many accomplishments. Lillian was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clifton Young, Jr., and three sisters, Ruth Cobbs, Peggy Dickenson, and Mary Elizabeth Woods.
Survivors include her daughter, Marva Jo Wheeler of Abingdon; step-son, Randy Hall and his wife, Jo of Killeen, TX; one sister, Jackie Young of Valley Health Care; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Ralph Kidd, Rev. Barbara Farmer and Rev. Willie Austin officiating. The committal service will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Michael Jones, Frank Foster, George Hopkins, Jon Dye, Robert Murray, and Robbie Jones serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Charles Wesley United Methodist Church, the Men of Valley Street Baptist Church, and Abingdon Ambulance Service. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m., Wednesday until the time of the service.
