Linda Marie Counts Hill

Afton, Tenn.

Linda Marie Counts Hill, 69, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at her home after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 6, 1949 in Bremerhaven, Germany into a military family and was a 1968 graduate of Patrick Henry High School in Glade Spring, Va. Linda's talents were many and included being an accomplished seamstress, artist, woodworker, and golfer (winning her Women's Club Championship two years in a row while living in Pennsylvania).  During her life, she used her creative talents to help establish and operate a craft shop in Princeton, W.Va., a silk screen printing shop in Marion, Va. and later Chilhowie, Va. 

She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who was happiest while creating and making things for her family.  She also loved to work in her flower gardens and seeing the plants grow and blossom.  She spent much of life moving around the country due to her husband's transfers with the railroad. She loved seeing different parts of the U.S. but never wanted to be too far from her children and grandchildren. Linda cherished her family and she devoted her life to creating a home where she could nurture and unite her beloved husband and two children in a home full of love. 

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Mildred Counts from Jacksonville, Fla.  She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Emory “Sonny” Hill, Jr.; son, David Aaron Hill and wife Tracy; daughter, Laura Elaine Hill Brooks and husband Ryan; three grandchildren, Ashleigh, Morgan, and Paige; sister, Wanda Anderson; and brother, Leslie Warren Counts, among other family members.  

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2018, at Abingdon United Methodist Church with Dr. Robert Countiss officiating.  A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Small Breed Rescue of East Tennessee, P.O. Box 22482, Knoxville, TN 37933, in Mrs. Hill’s name.
