Lois Mullins Layne

Kingsport, TN – Lois Mullins Layne, age 88, passed on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at her daughter’s home. Mrs. Layne was born and raised in Dickenson County, VA to the late James Russell Mullins and Dephia Ratliffe Mullins. Lois lived in Manassas, VA and Warsaw, VA for many years and moved to Abingdon, VA in 2002. She and her husband held nursing home ministries in both Warsaw and the Abingdon areas and assisted with the Campside Evangelism Program while living in Warsaw. Lois was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Bristol, VA. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Layne Bennett; brothers, Houston, Haskell, Chester, and Ulis Mullins; sisters, Eunice Patton and Lena Mullins. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Rutherford Layne of Kingsport, TN; daughter, Judy Shepherd and husband Bob of Kingsport, TN; brother, Roscoe Mullins of Clintwood, VA; sister, Norma Robinson of Clintwood, VA; sister-in-law, Lucille Mullins of Clintwood, VA; three grandchildren, Bobby Shepherd, Allen King, and Andrew Shepherd; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2014, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210, with Pastor Brad Davis and Bro. Bob Steele officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Danny Robinson, Roderick Mullins, Sylvan Mullins, George Hilton, Lamont Orndorff, and Josh Davis serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 1016 Old Airport Road, Bristol, VA 24201, in Mrs. Layne’s name.
