Abingdon, Va. – Lola Belle Bumgarner, age 81, passed on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Abingdon Health & Rehab Center after a long battle with dementia.
She was born May 12, 1936 in Grayson County, Va. to the late Theodore Lee Tibbs and the late Georgia Brown Tibbs. Mrs. Bumgarner enjoyed working at the Lincoln Theater in Marion in the late 1950’s and she also loved reading cozy mysteries. Besides her parents Mrs. Bumgarner is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Bumgarner; son, Michael Bumgarner; grandson, Brett Akers; and brother, William Tibbs.
Mrs. Bumgarner is survived by her son Gary Akers and wife Jane Caldwell of Abingdon; grandson Alexsander Akers of Houston, Texas; and sister-in-law Ruth Widener of Knoxville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Bumgarner will be held at noon on Monday, September 25, 2017 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. David Jackson officiating. The interment service will be at 2:00 p.m. in the McClure Cemetery in Chilhowie. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 p.m. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2017 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O.
