Mrs. Loreen Owens Powers, 80, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 in Abingdon, Va. She was born December 12, 1937 in Dickenson County, Va. to the late Tom and Lucy Owens. Loreen was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed gardening and canning food. She loved to spend time with her family especially during the holidays.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Powers; two sisters, Flossie Deel and Gertie Robinson; and three brothers, Leonard Owens, Donald Owens, and Sam Owens.
Mrs. Powers is survived by two daughters: Teresa Sells and husband Kenneth, and Lori Belcher and husband Kevin, all of Abingdon; two sons: J.D. Powers of Waynesville, Ohio and Craig Powers and wife Terri of Riverside, Ohio; six grandchildren: Chandra Parris, Kasie Viers and husband Alex, Kolton Powers, Caleb Powers and wife Maggie, Kaylan Belcher, and Shane Belcher; four great-grandchildren: Kerringtan, Greysan, Channing, and Kassen; three sisters: Gay Edwards of Clintwood, Va., Ruby Compton of Madison Heights, Mich., and Reba Jones of Platka, Fla.; and one brother, Louie Owens of Lincolnton, N.C.
The family would like to thank Caris Hospice for all their loving care and especially Mercedes Worley for going above and beyond.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. John E. Massey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where her sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers: J.D. Powers, Craig Powers, Kolton Powers, Caleb Powers, Shane Belcher, and Greysan Parris. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 6 -8 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
