Loreeta Ellen Nixon Carter, age 79, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Christiansburg, VA on April 21, 1943, to the late Rexford Lawrence Nixon and Eva Carlene Cole Nixon.
Loreeta was a graduate of Floyd High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Radford University. She taught school for over 30 years and retired from Jacob’s Creek Job Corps. She was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Loreeta was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, George Frank Carter.
Survivors include her son, Rex Carter and his fiancée Nikki Richardson; one daughter Sheri Ellen Carter; one grandson, Daxton Cole Carter; three sisters, Wanda Nixon Rettinger and husband, Jimmy; Janet Nixon Baca, and Lisa Nixon Newell and her husband, John; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 13, 2023 from 11:00 am until 12:00 at the Main Street location of Farris Funeral Service. The funeral will be at Monday, February 13, 2023 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating. The burial will be private at Mountain Home National Cemetery.
