Lowell William Blevins, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022. He was born August 16, 1942, to the late Earl W. Blevins and Cora T. Blevins in Smyth County, Va. He moved to Abingdon, Va. in 1963 where he helped his family build and manage the Empire Motor Lodge, and later operated the Empire Restaurant. Lowell was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and was a previous member of Glenrochie Country Club and Clear Creek Golf Club. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping while spending time with his pet boxer, Riley. He also enjoyed cooking, and spending time with his family and friends. Lowell was always quick with a laugh and a smile.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joe “Bud” Blevins and Willis Blevins.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosemary A. Blevins; daughter, Robin Cozart and husband, Michael; twin sons, Chad Blevins and wife, Susan, and Brad Blevins and wife, Michelle; sister, Pauline Anderson; his twin brother, Joel Blevins; additional brother, Rocky Blevins and wife, Brook; five grandchildren, Cora, Madison, and Eliza Cozart, Jacob and Makenna Blevins; and brother-in-law, John Aker and wife, Nancy.
A funeral ceremony will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. in Victory Baptist Church, 11101 Island Rd., Bristol, Va. 24202, with Dr. Austin Cook and Rev. Ethan Cook officiating. A private committal service will be held in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Jerry Anderson, Rick Anderson, Jacob Blevins, Kevin Blevins, Marty Blevins, and Roger Blevins will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Baumgardner, Riley Clark, Jim Collier, Carroll Dale, Jerry Hartsock, Bill Leonard, Clint Ramey, Julian “Skip” Raphael, and William Rugg. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the church.
