Lucille L. Kelly, 82, died Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Valley Health Care in Chilhowie. She was a lifelong resident of Washington, a daughter of the late Ernest M. and Elizabeth Viola Ratliff Lester. She was a member Abingdon United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Kelly was a retired registered nurse and former floor supervisor at Johnston Memorial Hospital where she was employed for over 40 years. She was a graduate of Johnston Memorial Nursing School. She was an avid reader and enjoyed Bible studies at her church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Davis Kelly and a sister, Martha Lester.

She is survived by her son, Allen Kelly and wife Carolyn of Abingdon; 4 brothers, Roland Lester, J. G. Lester and wife Joann, Fred Lester and wife Peggy, and Scotty Lester and wife Linda, all of Glade Spring; 4 sisters, Bea Mason and husband John of Chilhowie, Agnes Lester, Ann Lester, and June Lester, all of Glade Spring; 2 grandchildren, Jonathan Kelly and wife Andrea, and Brooke Higgins and husband Barry, both of Lexington, VA.; 2 great grandchildren, Jonathan Andrew Kelly and Hayley Addison Higgins; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Griffin officiating. Pallbearers will Butch Lester, Barry Higgins, Jonathan Kelly, Jason Lester, Randy Lester, Jacob Lester, and Jimmy Parks.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 246, Abingdon, VA 24212, or to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation, 650 West 168th St., New York, NY 10032.
