Lynnda Iris Henderson

March 27, 1941 — March 21, 2016

Lynnda Iris Clarke Henderson, age 74, of Kingsport, Tenn., went to be with the Lord, on Monday, March 21, 2016, at her home. She was born on March 27, 1941, to the late Edwin Riley Clarke and Mabel Irene Combs Clarke at the Clinch Valley Clinic, now Hospital, in Tazewell County, Va. After graduating from Richlands High School in 1959 she attended the registered nurse training program at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Washington County, Va. in 1962. In 1980 she graduated cum laude with her BSN from East Tennessee State University. On August 27, 1962, Lynnda married Albert King A.K. Henderson, born on May 6, 1937, at the First United Methodist Church in Richlands, Va. The couple made their home in Abingdon where their daughter, Lezlie, was born on April 9, 1963, and their son, Alan, was born a year later on April 24, 1964. For five years she was a pediatric charge nurse at Johnston Memorial Hospital. The family relocated to Kingsport in 1967 when A.K. continued his career at Holston Army Ammunitions Company. Subsequently, Lynnda began her career at the Sullivan County Health Department in Kingsport, Tenn. She served as the area nurse for schools and homes in the Bloomingdale area of Kingsport, and later coordinated the womens health clinic at the health department. Lastly, she was a founding member of the Inter Disciplinary Team with Holston Mental Health where she was the Nurse coordinator for the Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Treatment Program. She loved being a nurse, helping those in need, and was loved in return by many who received her help. The Henderson family are members of the Vermont United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening, especially roses, as well as, refinishing antique furniture.
In addition to her parents, Lynnda was also preceded in death by her sister, Alice VanDyke.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Albert King A.K. Henderson; daughter, Lezlie Snodgrass and husband Roger; son, Alan R. Henderson all of Kingsport, Tenn.; sister, Gail Cave and husband Sim of Sumpterville, Fla.; brother-in-law, Edwin VanDyke of Sunbury, Ohio; five nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local animal shelter or spay and neuter clinic in Lynndas name.
