Abingdon, VA Margaret Grace (Chadwick) Ferreira, died peacefully on September 4, 2014 in Abingdon, VA. Margie was born on July 24, 1925 in Bronx, NY; she was the daughter of the late George W. and Elizabeth (McElheney) Chadwick. Margie enjoyed listening to the 40’s, 50’s and today’s music, Elvis, and especially watching old movies and Elvis movies. She loved to dance and was a star at all of her nieces’ and nephews’ weddings. When she was little she liked roller skating at St. Helena’s Church in the Bronx with her 6 sisters. She was very proud of her brothers who had been in the service during WWII and one brother who served during Korea. Having grown up in the Bronx, she came to Massachusetts as a Yankee fan but was converted to become a part of the Red Sox Nation. Margie loved pets especially her cat Molly who is being well taken care of by her adopted family Amy, Dan, Daniel and Will Fellhauer. While working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, she met a young Marine named Tommy from Falmouth, MA and they married in 1945. After living in the Bronx and Mt. Vernon, NY, they made their home in Hyannis, MA. From there they moved to Brookline and later resided in Brighton. Margie worked for the Town of Brookline in the school department and for the Brookline Trust Company and for the Brookline Savings Bank. Margie was preceded in death by her husband Thomas (Tommy) F. Ferreira, Jr., son Thomas (Tom) F. Ferreira III, a granddaughter Genevieve and 6 brothers and 5 sisters. Margie is survived by her son James (Jim), daughter-in-law Jennifer, grandsons Sergei and Dima, all of Abingdon, VA, and daughter Denise and her daughter’s friend Roger DiPesa both of Brookline, MA; sister Georgiana O’Connor of Flushing, NY and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating the life of Margaret Grace “Margie” Ferreira will be held in Cape Cod, MA. The date and time of the service will be announced at a later date. Margie will be interred in the Massachusetts National Cemetery of Bourne, MA Cape Cod with her husband Tommy and near her son Tom.
