Peggy Trayer, 88, died Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, TN. Peggy was born in Pounding Mill, VA, a daughter of the late C. H. Trayer and Kate Harper Trayer. She is a graduate of Richlands High School and in 1946 received her degree in nursing from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Bluefield, WV. She worked in Roanoke as a registered nurse until retirement.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, H. M. "Jack" Trayer. She is survived by one sister, Louise Morgan of Abingdon, VA; sister-in-law, Loretta Trayer of Bristol, VA; her beloved dog, Gracie; niece, Barbara Trayer and husband Michael of Clearwater, FL; great nephew, John Michael and wife Helen of Clearwater, FL; two great nieces, Carolyn Musselman and husband Don and Julie Byrd and husband Bill all of Tampa, FL; and special cousin, Sandra Anderson of Huntersville, NC.
The family expresses their deep appreciation for the wonderful care and friendship of Patty Wright and Pam Fritz, as well as, Faye Roark who was with her at the Hospice House until her death.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 124 E. Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210, with burial to follow in Thorn Rose Cemetery, Staunton, Virginia with The Rev. Dr. Hamilton Fuller IV and the Rev. Dr. Craig R. Wylie officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Bristol Humane Society, Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic, 16222 Lee Highway, Bristol, VA 24202, or the Washington County Animal Shelter, 27252 Porter Lane, Abingdon, VA 24211.
