Sister Margaret Helen Vandyke, 81, born February 4, 1929 in Tazewell, VA passed away Friday, December 3, 2010 at the home of her daughter with her loving family by her side.
She was a daughter of the late Glenn and Sylvinia Waters White. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Berlin Vandyke on May 12, 1995; three sons, Junior, Leonard and Bobby Vandyke and two brothers, John and Raymond White.
Sister Helen Vandyke was a minister at Lighthouse for Jesus Church with Pastor Mel Penland in Glade Spring. She rejoiced in being part of God's work and she leaves a legacy of being a shining light. Our lives will forever be changed by her faithful service to the Lord and she will see many thankful faces waiting to see her.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Clinton Ratliff, Sue and Ray Ratliff all of Fredericksburg, VA and Brenda and Jimmy Miller of Glade Spring; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Debbie Vandyke of King George, VA, Paul and Barb Vandyke of Richlands, VA and Tommy and Trish Vandyke of Fredericksburg, VA; thirteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Bright and Bertha Deel and two brothers, George and James White.
The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Naomi Barrett and Sandy Pierce of Hospice of Southwest Virginia for the care they have provided.
Funeral services for Sister Helen Vandyke will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Sunday, December 5, 2010 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Brother Paul White and Pastor Mel Penland officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Matt Heldreth, Monacoe Ratliff, Cleacoe Ratliff, Wayne Miller, Isaac Johnson, Thomas Vandyke, Michael Paul Vandyke, John Boone and Walt Keene. Honorary pallbearers will be Clinton Ratliff, Ray Ratliff and Jimmy Miller.
The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday.
