Margaret Leota Shepherd Singleton, age 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 23, 2009. Born May 31, 1932, in Dungannon, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late, Roy Shepherd and Enola Nave, and step daughter of Harry Nave.
Margaret spent a lifetime taking care of her family and giving to others. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 59 years. She was a very loving and nurturing mother to her five children. She took great pride in being a grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her heart, these were the most important roles she fulfilled in life.
Pallbearers are Cory Osborne, Dustin Osborne, Brandon Singleton, F.D. Singleton, IV, David Turner, Derek Turner, Bob Pruett and Neal Hutton. Honorary pallbearer will be Steve Osborne.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, step father, half brother Clifford Shepherd and grandson, Bradley Allen Miller. She is survived by her husband, Dewey Singleton; three daughters: Mary Katherine (Kathy) Miller and granddaughter, Melissa Hutton and husband Neal; Margaret Anne Singleton; Teresa Turner and husband Scott and grandsons, David and Derek Turner; two sons: Floyd Singleton, III and grandson, F.D. Singleton, IV and wife April; Gary Singleton and wife Cathy and granddaughter, Amanda Yeatts and husband Scott, and grandson Brandon Singleton and wife Heather. She is also survived by three sisters: Sue King and husband Ted; Edith Hull; Linda Jones and husband Melvin; two brothers: Bobby Joe Shepherd; Jerry Nave and wife Diane. She is also survived by a great-grandson, Will Hutton, great-granddaughter Molly Katherine Hutton, step great-granddaughter Victoria Overstreet; and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret spent the majority of her life giving her generous time and providing heartfelt services as a volunteer with the following organizations: Johnston Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Washington County Cancer Society, Girl Scouts of America, PTA and the Washington County Democratic Committee. Margaret was a past member of the Eastern Star Chapter 144, Clintwood, Va. having served in the capacity as a Past Worthy Matron.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 29, at 2 p.m. at Farris Funeral Chapel in Abingdon, Virginia, with Elders Danny Smith and Darrell Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Va.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Farris Funeral Home in Abingdon, Virginia.
