Margaret Jeanette Sweat, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at her residence in Abingdon. She was born in Saltville, Virginia to the late Hal E. Sweat, Sr. and Blanche Rhea Sweat on November 29, 1945. Jeanette was a retired nurse at Southwest Virginia Mental Health Institute. She attended Glade Spring Church of God of Prophecy. She loved puzzle books, Diet Coke and M&M’s. She was a prolific Christmas shopper, starting her Christmas shopping at all times of the year. She will be missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her five brothers, Hal E. Sweat, Jr., Ralph Sweat, Edgar Sweat, Luther “Popsicle” Sweat and Teddy Sweat and two sisters, Estelle Lowe and Evangeline Hayden.
Survivors include her daughter, Ashley Sweat and fiancé Dakota Smith; one sister, Claudine Thomas and half-brother, Mark Sweat and wife, Christy.
The family requests a visitation on August 25, 2023, starting at 1:00 PM until the time of services at 2:00 PM in the Glade Spring Church of God of Prophecy, 302 Crescent Drive, Glade Spring, VA 24340 with Pastor Danny Mefford officiating, burial will follow at Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring.
