Margaret Thompson Snavely, 80, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at NHC in Bristol, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born in Tazewell, Virginia, the daughter of the late Mary Grace Lester Thompson and Floyd Lee Thompson. Margaret and her husband Sam were avid bowlers, having won numerous awards and other recognition in the sport. Margaret was a member of East Bristol Baptist Church, where she served as a greeter and was also the secretary of her Sunday school class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sam Snavely, and one brother, Sgt. Kenneth E. Thompson, USAF, Ret.
She is survived by one sister, Betty Louise Hahn and her husband Roscoe; one brother, George L. Thompson and his wife, Alice; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral service for Margaret Thompson Snavely will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Dan Birchfield officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Her family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Bill Arnold, Frank Lambert, Jimmy Perrch, Seth Birchfield, Kevin Hall and Tommy Sutherlin.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 9, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to East Bristol Baptist Church, 52 Pendergrass Rd, Bristol, VA 24201, or to your favorite charity.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff and nurses at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Caris Health Care, and NHC for the loving care given during Margaret's illness.
