Margie Marshall Leonard

Margie Marshall (Kemp) Leonard of Bristol, Virginia, beloved wife of the late Gene Leonard, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at Bristol Regional Medical Center, aged 82. She was born in Washington County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Robert Henry and Lettie Nora Price Kemp. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Roy Kemp, Robert Kemp, Johnnie Kemp, Josie Kemp, Rosa Lee Hall, Nora Kemp, James Kemp and Grant Kemp.

Margie is remembered by all for her strength and determination, and also for her boundless energy, her artistry in painting, quilting, gardening, and other creative hobbies. Her love of nature shown in her flower and vegetable gardens, her many birdhouses and bird feeders, her love of birdwatching, and walking the Mendota Trail. She was a life-long reader and learner, and books were her window onto the larger world. Her Book Club at the Bristol Public Library was an important part of her life.

She is survived by her son, Lawrence Leonard; son, Jeff Shelton; daughter, Angela Shelton; sister-in-law, Barbara Cochran; and sister-in-law, Cheryl Kemp.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Bristol Public Library, 701 Goode St., Bristol, VA 24201.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210, followed by a private interment.
