Meadowview, Va.
Maria M. Fuller, age 95, passed away on Friday September 16, 2022, at Ballad Hospice House.
She was a native of Germany and migrated with her husband, Lonza, to the United States in the mid 1950’s. She and Lonza lived in Greenbriar, VA until 1978 when they moved to Meadowview.
Lonza was a WWII veteran and remained stationed in Germany after the war. It was then that they met and ultimately married.
Her memories of the war remained vivid throughout her life. She remembered seeing Hitler and his SS bodyguards parading through her hometown and could still recall the black uniforms of the SS. In the later years of the war, the allies began bombing Germany. One afternoon she was playing with her siblings in her back yard around a picnic table. Hearing the air raid sirens, she scurried to get the younger siblings inside to safety. After hearing an explosion, she looked out to find that the picnic table been blown up.
After Lonza’s death in 1993, Maria began to travel. She toured almost every state in the United States.
Maria was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bristol. She will be remembered as being friendly and neighborly.
She is survived by her special friends Randy Osborne, Greg Harrison, Johnny Fuller, Connie McSheehy, David and Tammy Jones.
Services will be private.
