Marie Tate

Marie Tate died Friday, November 13, 2009 at her home in Bristol, VA surrounded by family and caregivers. She was the daughter of John Vanover and Mae Deel Vanover.

Born in Russell County, Virginia, November 8, 1920, she spent most of her life in Dickenson, County, Virginia where she taught in the public school system. The past thirty years she lived in Abingdon, VA where she worked as a Realtor and was active in community services. She was for over fifty years married to George W. Tate who in 1990 preceded her in death.

She is survived by her only child, Loretta Trayer, Bristol, VA, five nephews, Jim Ford and wife, Annie, Kingsport, TN, Joe Tate and wife Mary, Clintwood, VA, Douglas Tate and wife, Fran, Prescott, Arizona, Alison Steffey and wife, Mozelle, Clintwood, VA, Ivory Steffey and wife, Mary Sue, Clinchco, VA.

A special thanks to her caregivers and doctors, especially Faye Roark and Dr. David Thompson, Polly Alexander, Tracy Kimmell, and the staff of Amercian Home Care, especially Lisa Cordell.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, November 16, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main Street, Abingdon, VA.

The graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA with the Reverend Dr. Paul Hamilton Fuller, IV
officiating. Family and friends may assemble at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. Tuesday for the procession to the cemetery.
