Marilyn V. Hagy Mitchell Cruise, formerly of Grundy, Va., passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at Commonwealth Senior Living/Memory Care in Abingdon, Va. She was the daughter of the late Nathan and Cordelia Roberts Hagy. Marilyn was born in McDowell County, W.Va. on September 22, 1922.
She was a Christian and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Marilyn retired from Buchanan County Department of Social Services. She was a member and Past Matron of Florence Ann Chapter No. 133, Order of the Eastern Star, Grundy, Va., and received her 50 year pin. She was also a Charter member of the International Order of Job’s Daughters and Past President of Buchanan County Senior Citizens Bowling League.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William (Bill) Mitchell and Theron O. Cruise; four brothers, James, Clyde, Cledith, and Robert Hagy; five sisters, Lydia Lockhart, Rinda Boggs, Marylou Bowman, Edna McClanahan, and Alice Kassem; daughter Lois Coleman; and son Marshall Mitchell.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters Rita (Jamie) Broome of Paducah, Ky., and Barbara (Archie) Dotson of Abingdon; step-son James L. (Kathy) Mitchell of Radford, Va.; daughter-in-law Sandra Mitchell of Bristol, Va., four grandsons, one granddaughter, three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2019, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23, at the funeral home. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va. Honorary pallbearers will be Brenda Grose, niece; special friends Ola Ratliff, Ethel Rowlett, Carolyn Whited, and Molly Owens Taylor; her second family at Commonwealth Senior Living/Memory Care: Teresa Boyd, Kristie Brown, Brenda Coleman, Brandon, Kim, all the wonderful staff, nurses, aides, workers, cooks, Kathy, Melinda, Lila, Candice, and Kim. A special thanks to the Deacons of Woodland Hills Christian Church.
