Marjorie Ann Bowen McNeer

Marjorie Ann Bowen McNeer, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at her home. Marjorie was born November 27, 1936, in New York City, N.Y. to Harold Franklin Bowen and Charlotte Gray Merchant Bowen. She has one sister, Patricia Bowen White MacCabe of Wolfeboro, N.H., who survives. She is also survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles Conrad “Skip” McNeer of Bristol, Va., whom she married on June 9, 1956. She has three daughters: Ann Elizabeth McNeer of Atlanta, Ga. married to Joel Brockmann; Julia Bowen McNeer Seago of Topeka, Kan. married to Christopher Seago; and Catherine McNeer Morton of Parker, Co. married to Greg Morton; five grandchildren, Amelia Brockmann, Laura Brockmann, Erica Seago, Marissa Seago, and Rachel Morton.

She graduated from Miami Edison High School, Miami, Fla. 1954, and attended Duke University class of ’58.

Marjorie was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, The Order of the Daughters-of-the King, the Abingdon Arts Depot, the Abingdon Book Lovers Club, and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Abingdon, Va.

She lived with her husband in Topeka, Kan. for 37 years, and then they moved to Abingdon, Va. in 2003. She retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas in 1994 where she worked for 20 years.

Marjorie began painting in 1995, and she loved to paint portraits, especially of children, giving these portraits to the parents of the children as a gift. She loved music, concerts, and playing piano music for her husband.

She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2017, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Abingdon, Va. with Father Boyd Evans officiating. A reception will be held in the fellowship hall following the service at the church. A committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 124 E. Main St., Abingdon, Va. 24210.
