Mary Alice Jones Hardwick, age 104, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born July 17, 1912, in Washington County, Va. to the late Silas Alexander Jones and Susie Boardwine Jones. She attended Greendale Chapel and was an avid flower gardener.
In addition to her parents, Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Hardwick; one sister; and one grandson.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy P. (Sylvia) Hardwick; daughter, Patsy (Frank) Shelley; two grandchildren, Glen Alan (Lisa) Hardwick and Becky Shelley; three great granddaughters; one great-great granddaughter; extended family include, two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mildred (C.D.) Kestner; and special friend and caretaker, Vickie Price.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating. Interment will follow at Knollkreg Memorial Park where Glen Allen, Gary Clatterbuck, Roger Cuddy, Mark Farris,Bobby Shelley, Jim McCall, and Oliver Whitman will serve as pallbearers. Members and attendees of Greendale Chapel and C.D. Kestner will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the funeral home prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington County Virginia Lifesaving Crew, P.O. Box 65, Abingdon, Va. 24212. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Washington County Virginia Lifesaving Crew, their Greendale Chapel church family, Abingdon Ambulance Service, and the physicians and staff of Johnston Memorial Hospital.
