Bristol, TN - Mary Jeane Beavers was born on the “Ides of March” (March 15th) 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was named after her mom’s two sisters, Mary Ellen and Jeane. Mary Jeane is preceded in death by her Daddy, Thomas “Wilburn” Beavers in July 2017, and her Momma, Nancy Keesee Beavers, in April 2022. Mary Jeane is survived by her only sibling, her younger sister Jamie Beavers Greeson (husband Rob) of the home, and her only niece (on earth) Laura Thomas (husband Tyler) also of Bristol, TN.
While growing up, Mary Jeane mostly attended Atlanta public schools, including Milton Avenue. Her mom Nancy worked as an assistant there to Special Ed teacher and treasured friend, Marian Corothers Tackett. Mary Jeane was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, Falcons, Georgia Bulldogs, and Donny Osmond. She remained loyal to her Georgia roots even after moving with her parents to Bristol, Tennessee in 2001. The highlight of her more recent years was going to Laura’s ballet recitals. She was Laura’s most loyal supporter.
Mary Jeane had a generous heart for others and took joy in preparing a Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Box every year. She was not shy about hitting our dentist up for toothbrushes to put in the box she was packing. Had she been born “normal” she may have very well been a medical engineer. In her younger years, Mary Jeane would build recognizable oxygen incubators and baby hospital beds out of tinker toys for her dolls. Her other interests included the Kentucky Derby and Tour de France. She kept newspaper clippings on both.
Mary Jeane was fascinated by solar energy and would finger trace diagrams in the book we gave her about the subject. She loved to eat and may have been known to steal a little food or “Pepsi Cola” if the opportunity presented itself. She enjoyed taking long baths and turning the water on and off. Mary Jeane’s love for others was unconditional, pure and unwavering. She had a special doll that she cared for very much. She kept her baby on a daily morning and evening routine. She also kept herself busy doing “homework” by writing her name and address on lots of notebook paper.
Mary Jeane’s last years deprived her of the ability to walk or talk or even move much at all but her love for her family was still palpable. Now she is reunited with her parents, grandparents, two special cousins, aunts, uncles, special friend Billy, and little nieces and nephews she never got to meet here. No longer considered, “special needs” she is now beyond perfect in every way and so very happy and free. One day she will be a joyful, wonderful welcome guide to Heaven for the loved ones she temporarily left behind on earth. Everyone should be so blessed to have a Mary Jeane in their life.
Graveside services for Mary Jeane will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2023, in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Chilhowie, VA, where her brother-in-law, Rob Greeson, will speak.
