Mary Brown Holbrook, age 91, passed away on Tuesday August 15, 2017 at English Meadows Assisted Living. Mary was a native of West Virginia; however, she and her husband Burl relocated to Abingdon in 1967. She was a member of the Abingdon Baptist Church, where she taught the Adult Sunday School Class for 27 years. During her working years in the early 1960’s, she was an executive secretary with the Stonewall Jackson Insurance Company. Afterwards, she worked in Administration at Marshall University. Mary was a former trustee at the Oak Hill Academy.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Burl E. Holbrook and grandson Joshua L. Holbrook. She is survived by her children David M. Holbrook and wife Rose of Martinsburg, W? Va., Suzanne McComas of Huntington, W. Va., and Stephen T. Holbrook and wife Ann of Charleston, W. Va.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service for Mary Brown Holbrook will be held at 12:30 PM Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Abingdon Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Poole officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at the church. Entombment will follow the service at the Colonial Mausoleum in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, where Men of the Church will serve as casket bearers.
