Mary Casteel Thompson

Abingdon, VA – Mary Casteel Thompson, age 64, passed away on Saturday June 28, 2014 at her residence. A graduate of Emory & Henry College, Mary spent over 40 years of her life as a dedicated teacher and tutor. She was an avid reader and a Cincinnati Reds loyalist. She loved every living thing and spent her life putting others first. Mary had a knack for finding ways to help others without drawing attention to herself. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Mai Mai), friend, and neighbor. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Charles T. “Babe” and Edna Josephine Casteel, and brother, Allen Casteel. She is survived by her husband, Tim Thompson, 3 sons, Zach and wife Alysia, Erik and wife Rebecca and their daughter Olivia, and Craig. She is also survived by her beloved pets Riley, Lucy, Gilda and Murphy. A memorial service will be held for Mary Casteel Thompson at 2:00 pm on Wednesday July 2, 2014 in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clarence Dishman officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 30, 2014 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the Farris Funeral Chapel.
