Heaven gained an angel by calling Mrs. Mary Catherine Carter home on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the blessed age of 86. Mary Catherine transitioned while she was at home surrounded by multiple loving family members.
Mary Catherine Carter was born on January 28, 1931, to the late Mrs. Roxie Coleman and Mr. Issac Coleman. Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Hugh Carter and their eldest son, Mr. William Carter (Rebecca). Their matrimonial bond produced six children: Mary Jenkins (widow of Sanford Jenkins) of Wytheville, Va.; George Carter (Dianna) of Wytheville, Va.; Charlotte Carter (Clay) of Meadowview, Va.; Denise Carter of Ft. Worth, Texas; Jerome Carter of Charlotte, N.C.; and Michelle Carter of Harrisburg, N.C.
Mrs. Mary Catherine was one of twelve siblings: Marvin “Red” Coleman (Mary) of Tallmadge, Ohio; Prince Coleman (widower of Margie Coleman) of Glade Spring, Va.; Evelyn Campbell (widow of Frank) of Akron, Ohio; Irene Wells (Billy) of Bluff City, Tenn.; Dave Coleman (Rose) of Glade Spring, Va.; Tony Coleman of Meadowview, Va.; Charles Coleman of Glade Spring, Va.; Willie “Mack” Coleman of Kingsport, Tenn.; Mary Catherine was preceded in death by brothers, James “Jim” Coleman and Bill Coleman; and sister, Sara Gammon (widow of Glen) Akron, Ohio.
Known by many as "Momma", Mrs. Mary Catherine was a talented cook, seamstress, and gardener. Prior to relocating in North Carolina, Mrs. Carter was an active member of LifeLine Ministries in Meadowview, Va..
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Darrell Martin officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service to travel in procession to the cemetery by 1:40 p.m. Friday.
