Mary Jane Coulthard

Glade Spring, VA - Mary Jane Coulthard was a native of Southwest Virginia, born in Seven Mile Ford and lived most of her life in Glade Spring, VA.  Jane was a devoted mother, wife and loved her family and friends and her church, Glade Spring Presbyterian Church.  She was 97 years old. 

Jane is survived by her daughter Agnes Victoria (Vicki) Myers and her son-in-law Glenn Stanley Myers of Bristol, TN.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Harvey Lee (Buck) Coulthard along with her sister Eunice Rector and brother-in-law Roy Rector of Tazewell, VA.  Her parents were George and Aggie-Belle Hicks.  At the time of her passing she was the oldest current member of Glade Spring Presbyterian Church.

Jane was a hosiery mill worker before she became a full-time homemaker.  She supported her husband Buck during this time when he was a co-owner and operator of Old Glade Texaco Service Station off of Interstate Exit 29 until his retirement.   Buck became a part-time worker for W&L Construction Company before full retirement.

Jane loved reading, gardening, cooking and was a seamstress at home and enjoyed participating in the life of Glade Spring Presbyterian Church, including the Women’s Circle.  Jane appreciated her lifelong neighbors in Glade, especially during the time they survived the 2011 Tornado together.  She lived a long life of independence and found a good sense of humor helped achieved living a good long life.

Visitation with the family will be held 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in Old Glade Presbyterian Church.  Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Graham Bingham officiating.  Interment will follow in Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, people can donate to Glade Spring Presbyterian Church, 33234 Lee Highway, Glade Spring, VA 24340 or to the charity of a person’s choice.  The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon during Jane’s recent illness and to the care provided by NHC of Bristol, VA and Caris Hospice, working with NHC.
