Mary Ethel Adkins, loving wife and Christian mother, born July 31, 1934, in Dickenson County, Va., passed away at her home April 10, 2016, in Abingdon, Va. She was a daughter of the late Elmer and Fannie Kennedy. Ethel attended Jackson Memorial Church of Benhams, Va.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Bill Gerald Jerry Adkins, Jr.; two brothers, Hubert and Paul Kennedy; and three sisters, Sarah Campbell, Clarice Collins, and Pauline Dingus.
Ethel is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bill Gerald Adkins, Sr.; son, Jeffrey Adkins and wife Tessa of Bristol, Va.; sister, Marie McReynolds of Abingdon, Va.; four grandchildren: Canon and Mia Adkins of Bristol, Va.; Matthew Adkins and wife Carmen of Colorado; and Destiny Adkins of Bristol, Va.; two great grandchildren, Gerald and Emily Adkins of Hickory Tree, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Gary Harless officiating. A committal service will be held at Temple Hill Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 14th. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
