Maudie Lee Harmond Harless, 81, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Ella Sue Jones, with loving family by her side. Maudie was born Nov. 8, 1930 in Lebanon, VA and grew up in Elk Garden, VA. Mrs. Harless also lived in Shawnee, OK for several years before returning to Virginia where she settled in Abingdon for over 40 years. Maudie was a regular attendee of the Abingdon Church of the Nazarene until she was to ill to attend.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mamie Harmond Warner, step-father, Samuel Warner, husband, Archie Smith Harless and daughter, Mary Jean Harless.
Survivors include two sons, Roney Smith Harless of Glade Spring, VA and Fredie Lee Harless of Abingdon, VA; one daughter, Ella Sue Jones of Abingdon, VA; one brother, Dean Warner of Elk Garden, VA;
Mrs. Harless raised two grandsons, Roney Wayne Harless and Archie Smith Jones, and her great-granddaughter, Makenzie Jean Helton, who lived with her during her illness. She has six grandsons, three granddaughters, and 16 great-grandchildren. All of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Wayne Wilson officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
