Abingdon, VA – Maxie Evelyn Hayes Jackson, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. Born in Raven, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Marie Hubbard, and was a member of the Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was a resident of the area most of her life until she married her second husband, Jay R Jackson with whom she spent over 20 years in Florida before he passed away.
Maxie will be remembered by her children, family and friends as a loving wife, mother and friend. She enjoyed being a homemaker, sewing, quilting, and cooking for her family and friends all their favorite foods when they were with her. Her last years were spent in Abingdon at Commonwealth Community Assisted Living where the staff became an extension of her family. She loved them as if they were her own and the feeling was mutual from the staff toward her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 44 years, Paul W. Hayes; one son, James Arthur Hayes; and one brother, Arthur Hubbard.
Survivors include her son, Paul Calvin Hayes and daughter-in-law Freda Hayes; daughter, Kimberly Hayes and Don Maxfield; brothers, Melvin Hubbard and William Hubbard; and sisters, Irene Powers, Lucille Lucas, and Virginia Underwood.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, in Green Hills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA with Rev. John E. Massey, Jr. officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
The family extends special thanks to all those that loved her and were so good to her during her last years. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
