Melvin Cecil Lester, 88, passed on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. Mr. Lester was a 1947 graduate of Glade Spring High School and retired from Columbus-McKinnon after 28 years of employment.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ethel Ratcliffe Lester; sisters, Christine Kennedy and Betty DeFriece; and brothers, Bob, Alfred, and John Lester.
Mr. Lester is survived by his wife of 69 years, Billie Campbell Lester; son, Gary Lester and wife Margaret of Abingdon, Va.; daughter, Barbara Lester of Bristol, Tenn.; brother, Harold Lester and wife Bonnie of Meadowview, Va.; three grandchildren, Brittany Gillespie, Jennifer O’Brien, and Bradley Lester; three great-grandchildren, Corbin, Cole, and Palmer; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2018, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Cryptside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Mt. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum with Mr. Stanley Dunham officiating. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to convene at the cemetery.
