Michael David Collum, age 79, of Glade Spring, Va., passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born to the late George Dewey Collum, Sr. and Nellie Marie Sherwood Collum
in Seminole, Texas. He joined the United States Navy when he was 17 and spent the majority of his career on the Submarine Force. Michael retired as a Sonar Tech Submarine Chief after 22 years of service. During his time in the Navy, he served as the ships’ photographer, taught sonar, and was also a diver. He was the owner and president of American Pacific Growth in Hawaii.
In addition to his parents, Michael was also preceded in death by his son, David Allen Collum; brother, George Dewey Collum, Jr., and two sisters, Shirley Northern and Jean Collum.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Rachel Eastridge Collum; five children: Jon Collum of Burlingame, Calif.; Nancy Walko and husband, Craig, of Orlando, Fla.; Walter Pollard and wife, Stephanie, of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; John David Pollard and wife, Vivienne, of Manchester, Mo.; and Michelle Colon of Glade Spring, Va.; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and beloved Maltipoo, Zoe.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Due to concerns related to Covid, the family is not receiving guests at
home.
