Michael Dewayne “Red” Payne, age 57, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021. Red was born in English, WV and had lived in Abingdon for a number of years. He was a nuclear field engineer and his job took him and his family to Spring Hill. Red was a U.S. Army Veteran. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball and football in his spare time. He also enjoyed playing golf.
Mike was predeceased by his parents Hobart Gene Payne and Lois McCoy.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Sherry L. Payne; sons Andrew J. Payne of the home, Jonathan M. Payne and wife Nichole, U.S. Navy, San Diego, CA and Steven Casey Payne and wife Kayla, USMC, Camp Pendleton, CA; grandsons Michael V. Payne, Owen Payne, and Watson Payne; granddaughter Lynda Foreman; sisters Peggy Blevins, NC, and Julia Fullen Bolen, NC.
A memorial gathering will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
