Michael Joseph Pierry, Jr.

Michael Joseph Pierry Jr, age 93, of Abingdon, VA, passed away with family at his side, on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023 after struggling with a recent illness. A graduate of Duke University with a degree in Civil Engineering, he helped establish a successful heavy construction firm in Cleveland, Ohio that produced highways, bridges, dams and other large scale work. Retiring to Abingdon, he and his wife, Maiddie, enjoyed traveling the world. Visiting most of the United States as well as Europe, Africa, South America, Australia, China and Japan. On these trips he would use his exceptional skills as a photographer to document their activities. Recently he has turned these photographic talents to a running photographic journal of the local train system in the Tri-Cities area. Of special interest to him was the local steam train events which he rarely missed. Throughout his life he was always supportive of friends and family. Directly or indirectly he did everything he could to improve the lives of all those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frances and Michael Pierry Sr; his wife Maiddie Frye Pierry; and his brother, Robert Pierry.

Michael is survived by his son, Michael Pierry III and his wife Deirdre Kearns Pierry of Redwood City, California.
