Mildred Grace McCann Rosenbaum

January 12, 1920 — October 9, 2011

Mildred Grace McCann Rosenbaum, 91, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 at her home.

Throughout almost a six year period of declining health issues she a fought a good and brave fight, maintaining an unwavering faith in God, optimism, and thanks for each and every day.

Grace was born January 12, 1920 in the Bethel Community of Washington County, VA, daughter of the late John Baxter and Ruthella Hackler McCann.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Clyde Robinson Rosenbaum in March 2006; a daughter, Evangeline Adams in February 2009; 1 brother and 2 sisters.

As a child Grace attended Bethel School and graduated in 1936, she was a star basketball player. Family, church and friends were top priorities for Grace. She was a dedicated and hard-working wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In raising five children, Grace instilled the importance and value of good character, receiving an education, maintaining a positive attitude and being a responsible individual. As a mother, she was always "there for you", sharing in life's ups and downs, always giving love, patience, and support. She had been a member of Glade Spring Presbyterian Church for 70 years.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, John Martin Rosenbaum and wife, Betty of Abingdon, Ramona Cline and husband, Darrell of Glade Spring, Nola Ann Rosenbaum of Abingdon and William Rosenbaum and wife, Janice of Bristol, VA; Grace also considered long time and dear family friend, Scott Robertson of Darnestown, MD as part of her family; her grandchildren, Lisa McCroskey and husband, James, Meredith Mathesius and husband, Ryan, Kellie Bird and husband, Andy, Ashley Harris and husband, Jason, Daniel Cline, Todd Rosenbaum and Whitney Rosenbaum; her great grandchildren, Zane and Wyatt McCroskey, Kinsley and Braxton Bird, Emerson and Merritt Mathesius, and Carson Harris; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Grace's mental and physical health were greatly enhanced by the following special in-home caregivers, dedicated to her needs; Kathy Evans, Libby Dickerson, Lillie Kessee, Chris Puckett and Bonnie Chapman. Grace's family sends a huge heartfelt thank you to these ladies for bringing Mom smiles, sunshine, encouragement and tender loving care. Grace's family also extends much gratitude to Dr. William Mark Handy, Home Nursing Service of Southwest VA, and Home Town Hospice for their constant and professional dedication and guidance related to Mom's care and comfort. Mom's life was made even brighter by all those individuals who prayed for her, visited, sent cards and made telephone calls during her years of declining health. Thank you for all your acts of love and kindness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 in the Glade Spring Presbyterian Church with Rev. Timothy Bird officiating. Interment will follow in Glade Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Hutton, Steve McCall, Dale Orr, Bill Sanders, Ernest Hurd and Bill Faris. Honorary pallbearers are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hackler, Rosamond Rosenbaum, Dr. J.S. Shaffer, Dr. Ellison Conrad, Dr. William Mark Handy, Tom McFadden, Shirley Overbay and Ruby White.

The family will receive friends at Glade Spring Presbyterian Church from 12:30 P.M. 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 or at anytime prior at Grace's home, 32305 Lee Hwy, Glade Spring, VA 24340.
