Mildred Mikel Caywood

Mildred Mikel Caywood, age 97, passed on Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mildred was born in Grayson County, VA on October 29, 1916, to the late Johnnie Mikel and Blanche Ball Mikel. She was a 1938 graduate of Virginia-Carolina High School in Grayson County and moved to Washington County shortly thereafter. Mrs. Caywood volunteered for numerous years at the Abingdon Senior Center and was a member of Glade Baptist Church. Mildred was known for always seeing the good in others.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Caywood; granddaughter, Leslie Shea Snead; brother, Tracy Mikel; and sister, Wave Sexton.

She leaves behind one son, Ronald C. Caywood of Blue Ridge, VA; two daughters, Sandra Snead of Bristol, VA and Annette C. McHugh and husband Chuck of Wickiwatchee, FL; five grandchildren, Ronnie Snead and wife Diana, Rob Snead, Trey McHugh, Jeffrey McHugh, and Matthew McHugh and wife Kimberly; five great-grandchildren, Brennan and Marshall Snead, and Charlie, Emory, and Eden McHugh; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2014, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Dennis Blazier officiating. Interment will follow in Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery with Rob Snead, Trey McHugh, Matthew McHugh, Ed Caywood, Larry Fisher, and Johnny Steele serving as pallbearers.

Visitation with the family will be 1:30 3:00 p.m. just prior to the service. The family would like to thank the staff of Grace Health Care (especially Tammy and Kim) and the staff of the ER and PCU at Johnston Memorial Hospital for their care of Mrs. Caywood.
