Milton George Newbury, age 89, of Abingdon, Va., passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Wellmont Hospice House. He was born in Potter County, Pa. on September 26, 1928, to the late Charles William Newbury and Grace Belle Furman Newbury. Milton was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He retired from Columbus McKinnon with 30 years of service.
In addition to his parents, Milton was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Jesse, and William Newbury; and four sisters, Florence Kramarik, Winona Tracy, Violet Buddinger, and Margaret Doty.Milton is survived by his wife of 68 years, Audrey Louise Kernan Newbury; daughter, Gail Marie Newbury of Marysville, Calif.; son, Randall “Randy” Newbury and wife, Mary, of Hickory Plains, Ark.; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2018, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Hwy., Abingdon, VA 24210. A committal service will follow in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens where military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Marine Corps. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Monday at the Forest Hills Chapel prior to the funeral ceremony.
