Nancy Kilpatrick Curtis

July 2, 1944 — January 13, 2025

Abingdon, VA

Nancy Carolyn Kilpatrick Curtis, age 80, passed away unexpectedly as a result of a fall on Monday, January 13, 2025, at her home. Nancy was born in Monroe, NC to the late William Glen Kilpatrick and Nannie Lee Newell Kilpatrick. She grew up in Turtletown, TN which she always jokingly said was just outside Ducktown and slightly north of Buzzard Roost.

Nancy was a graduate of Copper Basin High School in Ducktown, TN. After graduation, she earned her nursing degree from the University of Tennessee. Nancy enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a flight nurse. It was during her time in the Air Force that she met her husband, William Robert (Bill) Curtis, Jr., who was serving in the Air Force as well. It was love at first sight and she never looked back.

Together they lived in Marietta, GA as well as Asheville, Charlotte and many other places in North Carolina where Nancy worked as an OR nurse. Following the death of her father, Nancy accepted the job as a travel nurse, living in many other places throughout the country before moving to Abingdon in 2006. It was here they became active members of Highlands Fellowship Church and found their forever home.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, William Robert (Bill) Curtis, Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Glenda Lowe and husband Danny; brother, William (Bill) Kilpatrick and wife Terri, as well as one special niece and three nephews who presented her with the next generation to spoil and love.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Craig Barber officiating. Committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Mountain Home National Veterans Cemetery in Johnson City, TN.
